Well for me that is. I've come to a bit of a cross roads. Now I've completed my MCSA I am thinking of kicking back a bit and playing some games. Now my main pc is used vary rarely these days so its spec is SOOOoo last century. Its an aging AMD 64 x2 3800 socket 939 with 2 GB and DDR and an ATI x800xt (or xl I forget now)graphics card. Which as I'm sure you can appreciate is not going to cut the mustard today. Its fine for all my old games like doom 3 and COD2 and F.E.A.R. with a bit of battlefield thrown into the mix, but any game I buy today with either look horrible or run at like 10FPS or something.
So the dilemma I have is: do I upgrade my computer (which realistically means ripping out everything and starting again) or do I buy a console of some sort.
I do want a WII that I know cause I like some of the games on it (TBH i'd be happy with the bowling game that comes with it) but I can imagine that I will still want to play a good few FPS's when I get the chance so I'm thinking also an xbox 360. This would also have the added bonus of being with the other half during gaming sessions and not skulking off to the south wing of the house and shying away from being sociable.
Add the fact that I'm a 30 something father with precious little time to play games too often I can see the pick up and play ability of consoles will be very appealing. Its just occurred to me that I'm writing this as if I've never owned a console before that's certainly not true my first console was an N64 and I still have one kicking around the house somewhere.
So its with a heavy heart that I say goodbye to PC gaming , its been fun (especially when installing new shiny gpu's memory or whatever and seeing what difference its makes to old games) and hello to the quicker satisfaction of console gaming.

Well, being in the same boat myself (30 something father of 2 with better half) and being an avid gamer and PCer, i overcame the problem.
We have 3 PCs in teh house, my sons, my partners and mine. My sons is in his room, the other 2 in the living room all connected by cabled network.
This means i can sit and play games on the PC against my son while spending time with my partner.
But to make sure all the family can be involved at some point we also have a WII in teh living room.
This means my daughter can play on it when she wants or we all can enjoy the family games (Raving Rabbids being a top fave!)
All i need do is keep 3 PCs working (i update mine with new hardware and pass down the older components to partner or son!) and keep getting Wii games that interest us. It also means i can still play FPS, stratergy, Roleplay or any other type of game without too much hassle.
(oh yeah, we also have a PS2 and 2 Nintendo DS's as well.)
So as you can see, theres no real reason to stop using the PC for games, yet a good reason to get another console (like the Wii as its family based more than a PS3 or Xbox)for everyone to enjoy!
I've got COD4 and Rainbox 6 Vegas on PC which should run ok on your machine if you want me to post them over?
